Unlike other media players, 3GP Player is specifically formatted to handle files that are compatible with mobile media. Even so, it is a program of extreme versatility within the job it does, allowing for the playback of other media as well, including FLV, MPEG and AVI.
As a standard media player, 3GP Player does come with the usual fair. There are the basic playback controls as well as a few extras, such as rotate and flip, to account for the fact that mobile media may not have the same orientation as the computer the media is transferred to. Viewing is enhanced with both full-screen and windowed mode. Dragging the border of the program resizes the media instantaneously while still retaining the correct aspect ratio.
Though simple, the program is polished looking and extremely small when compared to other media programs. Files load extremely quickly and its ability to load more than just mobile media definitely makes it a contestant for your simple media player of choice. That being said, it is not a video or audio editing program. There are no plug-ins that allow for enhancement, and there is no way to equalize or otherwise enhance sound, meaning it falls short of the more modern media programs.
In the end, 3GP is perfect for those who prefer traditional mobile phones over smartphones. In addition, its simplicity can feel extremely limiting when compared with the advanced capabilities of its peers. Beyond that, it is a very well made, simple program that is amazing at performing its one job. Use it for that, and you’ll have exactly what you need every time.
